Lesya

Art Ballet Company, the only neoclassical troupe in Ukraine, presents a unique biographical ballet, Lesya, by Ukrainian choreographer Artem Shoshyn, whose production Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors at the Lviv National Opera stirred the entire theatrical and artistic world of Ukraine last year.
Lesya is the first dance performance about the life and work of Lesya Ukrainka, a woman who became a symbol of femininity, national culture, freedom, and resilience.
The lead roles are performed by world-renowned Ukrainian ballet stars: prima ballerina and People’s Artist of Ukraine Nataliia Matsak and the principal dancer of the National Ballet of Ukraine, Serhii Kryvokon.
The extraordinary fate of the brilliant poet and writer Lesya Ukrainka inspired choreographer Artem Shoshyn to create an elevated and metaphorical choreographic narrative. The ballet reveals how behind the canonical image lies a living woman with her emotions, passions, and struggles. Shoshyn’s choreography is filled with sharpness and, at the same time, tenderness: every movement in the ballet conveys emotion, and every scene tells a story.
The libretto is based on real events. The performance, using the language of neoclassical choreography in a free and poetically reimagined form, portrays the stages of the heroine’s life and the dear people who shaped her journey. This ballet is about love, creativity, and a heroic struggle against illness.
The ballet is set to the poetic and tragic music of romantic composer Franz Schubert.
Join us for a sophisticated and contemporary ballet, Lesya.
Do not miss the opportunity to experience high art that reinterprets the image of a prominent figure in Ukrainian culture. Above all, it proves that contemporary Ukrainian ballet has a voice that resonates worldwide.
